What do furniture and bicycles have in common? Fritz Hansen and Velorbis make it possible
Among other things, Denmark is known for its unique design and cycling culture. This collaboration between the Danish bicycle brand Velorbis and Fritz Hansen combines the best of both worlds. The result is a modern city bicycle, complete with bicycle bags, where the focus is on the two companies’ shared passion for craftsmanship, materials and aesthetic.
‘The collaboration between Velorbis and Fritz Hansen has been inspiring and effective because of our shared values, driven by an ambition of designing simple, functional and aesthetic products in the highest quality. We are always interested in presenting our brand from a new perspective that is interesting to our clients. And we are always interested in working with strong brands that share our values, and our collaboration with the Danish brand Velorbis is an example of that,’ says Sofie Lindahl-Jessen, Executive Vice President Sales & Brand Management, Fritz Hansen.
In collaboration with Fritz Hansen, Velorbis has designed the bicycle ‘Arrow Seven 60’ – a modern city bicycle that celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Series 7TM chair and, not least, Danish design and cycling culture. The bicycle has a hand-built lugged and brazed frame with a leather seat and leather grips. The colour of the frame and the wheels is the bespoke Fritz Hansen brown. A range of unique features – including a leather emblem, a copper bell, leather-bound toe clips and high-gloss stainless steel mudguards – underscore the exclusivity of the design.
‘Danish design, not least, Danish furniture design, has always been an important source of inspiration for our work, so we view this opportunity to work with Fritz Hansen as a great honour and a big pat on the back,’ says Kenneth Bødiker, co-owner, Velorbis, and adds, ‘A well-designed bicycle is a piece of contemporary furniture, which deserves to be displayed on your wall at home, to be admired by yourself and your guests, complementing your other designer furniture.’
